I’d love to say “nothing much”, but these food boxes don’t grow themselves people!
(Well, strike that, they do actually…)
After years of working weekends, our week now starts Monday morning in the Garden, making compost, catching up on jobs, weeding, cleaning up, not much planting at the moment.
The Garden has been a bit neglected these winter months as life’s dramas and adventures have taken over, but we’ll be resuming to normal transmission very soon.
Monday afternoon and Tuesday morning is spent phoning and chatting with local growers about their harvest and crop plans for this week, lots of discussion on the weather, the markets, those pesky wholesalers, and what’s the seasons doing.
By Tuesday morning, we have fair idea of what will be in the food boxes, although it can change as late as Thursday.
We prepare and send out this email and update all the prices on the website.
The rest of Tuesday is spent preparing standing orders, ordering dry goods stock with suppliers, bookkeeping jobs (yuck!), invoicing, cleaning empty boxes, and general administration jobs.
Wednesday, Tom comes in to help prepare all the food box orders with me, and Caithlin packs all your dry goods (after they’ve been punctually received by 11am). We make finishing touches to orders with growers, the bakers and the markets, and about 7pm we leave pack the truck and head home.
Thursday starts at 1.30am in the morning (yes, it hurts; no, you don’t get used to it) so we can get the fresh produce packed and sent out as quickly as possible. After a day packing food boxes and tending the produce store, we head home around 7pm and repeat the same on Friday.
After weekend of catching up on sleep, we start again on Monday.
And yes, we love it… honestly.
